Happiness
Hope... Virtue... Solitude... Devotion... Sorrow... Love...
i've just read thru an article online about "happiness"
and its extremely an interesting read
the 5 basic things that we think will make us happy
Fame
Wealth
Beauty
Genius
Power
imagine people holding all the 5 things listed
they would be standing atop most, if not all, of the ppl around them
but i believe most of us already knows
those kind of "happiness" are purely fallacy
and wad can truely makes us happy?
citing from the same website i read about the 5 things
"Friendships, altruism and religious practices bring happiness. It may be that taking the focus off your own happiness is what makes happiness possible."

Deaf

a friend got me thinking hard
why am i learning Sign Language?
for interest?
why would it interest me?
if i hadn't applied for Sign Language i wouldn't know all those deaf friends
so if i had steered clear of Sign Language
i would have little or possibly no deaf friends at all
and if i have no deaf friends at all...
is there a need for me to know Signing at all?
for awareness to the deaf society?
really?
then maybe DCCL would suffice
even if it doesn't suffice, if we are really concerned, we would look it up ourselves right?
what my friend said about awareness is really true...
we already know there are deaf people around us
is there really a need to pay that amount of money for up to a dozen lessons just for awareness?
just for fun?
a language which the deaf society rely on as their daily communication tool...
and we just learn it "for fun"?
if the feeling of "fun" fades away, are we going to stop learning?
what? are we treating it as a toy?
if we continue to learn despite no longer feeling fun
arent we just forcing an obligation upon ourselves?
because other friends are learning it?
i think this is the most selfish of all
learning Sign Language due to a "trend"
making use of a culture to "fit in" in their own justification
displaying shallow attitudes of self-righteousness
they are most probably thinking
"i know sign language and the rest of the people doesn't know! i'm special!"
i had originally fell into the category of "just for fun"
after i know more about Deaf Culture
i developed an interest for it
but its as simple as that
will i be utilising it fully in the future?
what would i contribute to the deaf society?
do volunteer work?
maybe... but is there a more solid reasoning for me to learn Sign Language?
not now that i know of
probably not so soon as well
but i will keep thinking
and while i am searching for that answer
i'll continue to learn the skills of Signing
hopefully an answer lies waiting for me somewhere out there
